BACKGROUND:
Fleet Services is recommending the purchase of one ambulance assigned to the Fire Department. The recommended purchase will be the replacement of unit 3082. The average life span of an ambulance is 5 years. The vehicle being replaced has been in service for over 7 years and Fleet is suggesting its replacement due to maintenance and age.
The new vehicle components are available from Frazer LTD, the manufacturer of Frazer ambulance bodies and Sam Pack Five Star Ford, which will supply the F-550 chassis. Staff recommends buying the units separately to expedite the building process. The ambulance body component will be installed on the F-550 chassis at Frazier. The components will be purchased through the BuyBoard purchasing cooperative. This cooperative entity meets all state of Texas competitive bidding requirements.

Five Star Ford (BuyBoard) $ 70,013.14
Total $318,763.14
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
This vehicle will be purchased using budgeted funds in the Fleet Replacement Fund. BuyBoard provides the City with an annual rebate and is the best value for this purchase.
IMPACT ON COMMUNITY SUSTAINABILITY:
Purchasing vehicles such as this ensures that City employees have the resources necessary to do their job, which is a Council strategic goal.
