BACKGROUND:

This project is to conduct an intersection safety and operations analysis at the two intersections of Josey Lane at Trinity Mills and Old Denton at Trinity Mills.  Both intersections have congestion due to high traffic volumes and elevated accident rates.  A detailed analysis of both intersections to identify physical and operational improvements will be conducted.  The project will evaluate existing signal timing and provide updated signal timing plans for short-term congestion mitigation.  Long-term recommendations will also be identified, which may include additional lanes, redistributing existing lanes, signage, illumination, and other access management improvements.  Schematic plans and an opinion of probable construction cost (OPCC) will be completed for any recommended interchange alternatives

 

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:

BGE, Inc has submitted a proposal to the City of Carrollton to perform the engineering services for the project for an amount not to exceed $138,000.00.  Funding is available in the Streets Consolidated Fund.

This project will support the City Council’s strategic objectives and vision of building a community that families and businesses want to call home by:

 

  • Sustaining quality of life - Improvements to the intersection of Old Denton at Trinity Mills and Josey Lane at Trinity Mills will improve the safety and operations of the intersections while minimizing traffic delays.

 

STAFF RECOMMENDATION/ACTION DESIRED:

Staff recommends authorizing the City Manager to enter into a professional services contract with BGE, Inc. for the preparation of the engineering analysis, including traffic study, signal timing improvements, recommended intersections improvements, and intersection alternative analysis for the intersections of Old Denton at Trinity Mills and Josey Lane at Trinity Mills in an amount not to exceed $138,000.00.
