Title

Consider Authorizing The City Manager To Approve Change Order #1 With DDM Construction Corporation For Additional Street Panel And Sidewalk Replacements On Chestnut Road And Falkland Road For The Woodlake #3 Street Reconstruction Project In The Amount Of $231,510.00, And Increasing The Total Project Amount To $4,169,080.00.

Body

BACKGROUND:

The City Council awarded a contract on September 18, 2018 to DDM Construction Corporation in the amount of $3,937,570.00. The scope of the project is to replace sanitary sewer trunk lines, install new storm sewer pipe, and replace street and sidewalk pavement throughout the Woodlake #3 neighborhood, including Barton, Chatsworth, Oak Hill, Warberry, and Windsor Roads. Panel and sidewalk replacements are also scoped for Chestnut Road and Falkland Road.

Change Order No. 1 reflects a change in the quantity of street panel replacement, sidewalk replacement, and retaining wall line items to accommodate additional street and sidewalk replacements needed along Chestnut and Falkland. This adjustment is necessary to repair existing structural damage to adjoining pavement, remove ponding, and comply with current ADA standards.

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:

This change order consists of an additional $231,510.00 in needed repairs, which increases the current contract from $3,937,570.00 to $4,169,080.00, which is a 5.9% increase. Funding for the additional quantity is available in the Streets Consolidated fund.

IMPACT ON COMMUNITY SUSTAINABILITY:

This project will support the City Council’s strategic objectives and vision of building a community that families and businesses want to call home by:

  • Sustaining quality of life - Improvements in the subdivision should improve the appearance of the neighborhood and encourage residents to provide better upkeep of their properties;
  • Sustaining day-to-day operations - The replacement of substandard street and sidewalk pavement should reduce the need for non-scheduled or emergency repairs.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION/ACTION DESIRED:

Staff recommends City Council authorize the City Manager to execute Change Order No. 1 in the amount of $231,510.00 with DDM Construction Corporation for additional needed street and sidewalk repairs on Chestnut Road and Falkland Road, which will increase the construction contract to an amount not to exceed $4,169,080.00.
