Title

Consider Authorizing The City Manager To Approve A Contract With Tegrity Contractors, Inc. For The Central Service Center Storage Barn 2016 Project In An Amount Not To Exceed $627,777.00.

Body

BACKGROUND:

This contract will provide for the construction of a new metal storage building, additional concrete yard paving and additional landscaping at the Central Service Center.  This project was approved by Carrollton voters in the 2007 Bond Referendum. A small portion of the existing yard area is still gravel.  The project involves the construction of a 5,960 square foot metal storage building, the removal and replacement of the remaining gravel yard area with concrete paving, and the installation of additional landscaping to screen the building and the yard from Nimitz Drive.

The duration of construction is 125 calendar days. Construction will be coordinated so that the Central Service Center main entrance is only minimally impacted and the operation of the maintenance yard remains fully functional.

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:

Four (4) bids were received on August 31, 2016.  Bids ranged from a low bid of $627,777.00 submitted by Tegrity Contractors, Inc. to a high bid of $899,789.80.   The Engineer’s estimate was $433,200.00.  Tegrity Contractors, Inc. has performed an excellent job on several other projects for the City of Carrollton.  They received great recommendations from other municipalities, school districts and private schools. They appear capable of completing the project in the allocated time of 125 days.

Funding for the Central Service Center Storage Barn 2016 project is available in the Central Service Center GO bond fund account in the amount of $627,777.00.

IMPACT ON COMMUNITY SUSTAINABILITY:

This project will contribute to community sustainability by:

  • Replacing the remaining gravel work yard with concrete pavement that will require less ongoing maintenance.
  • Provide a storage building for vehicles and materials to be utilized and staged during times of inclement weather (snow and ice removal).

STAFF RECOMMENDATION/ACTION DESIRED:

Staff recommends City Council authorize the City Manager to enter into a construction contract for the Central Service Center Storage Barn 2016 project with Tegrity Contractors, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $627,777.00.
