Consider A Resolution In Support Of An Application For Funding Through TxDOT For The Construction Of A Multi-Use Trail Between The TC Rice Park And The Carrollton Blue Trail At Furneaux Creek.

BACKGROUND:
On April 5, 2022, City Council adopted the updated Trails Master Plan for the City. A multi-use trail along the DART Green line was included in the regional connections section of the trails master plan. As part of the Regional and Statewide trail master plans, a trail from Denton, south along the DCTA commuter rail corridor has been completed to the Hebron Station. An extension of the trail from the Hebron Station to the north Carrollton City limits is beginning construction and the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is in the process of awarding funds for extension of the trail through TC Rice Park.

The continuation of the trail along DART Green Line south of TC Rice is also a part of the Citywide, Regional and Statewide trail master plans. Funding through TxDOT for the extension of the trail south of TC Rice Park to the Blue Trail at Furneaux Creek would link the Regional Trail from Denton to the Carrollton Citywide trail network.

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
A 20 percent local match will be required for the TxDOT Transportation Alternatives Grant. The maximum grant award will be $10,000,000, therefore a local match of up to $2,000,000 would be required. Funding for the local match is available in the Parks Consolidated Fund.
