Title
Consider An Ordinance To Authorize Sworn Positions And Classifications In The Carrollton Police Department.
Body
BACKGROUND:
In order to comply with Texas Local Government Code Chapter 143, Subchapter B, Section 021, and Carrollton City Ordinance 35.50.B the number of authorized sworn positions in the Police Department and the classification of those positions must be approved by the City Council through ordinance. The General Fund Budget for Fiscal Year 2017/2018 was approved on the September 19, 2017 Council Meeting to increase appropriations for one (1) sworn officer position for the Police Department. Therefore, the City Council must approve an ordinance establishing the number of planned authorized positions in each classification. This will increase the total authorized sworn officer positions 169, which includes two (2) Community Oriented Police Grant funded officers. The new position is classified as the rank of police officer.
IMPACT ON COMMUNITY SUSTAINABILITY:
This action is taken to comply with State Law governing the authorized positions and classification of positions for state civil service police departments.
RECOMMENDATION/ACTION DESIRED:
Staff recommends that City Council approve an ordinance authorizing the number of positions and classifications of police officers within the Carrollton Police Department.
