Title

Consider A Resolution To Name City Park Land “Tor Hill Park”.

Body

BACKGROUND:

The Parks & Recreation Department has been looking for opportunities to develop a park in the north part of town. This area is underserved and needs a neighborhood park. After a long search, a tract of land became available for a long-term lease.

The City of Carrollton signed an agreement to lease land across from Hebron High School on Plano Parkway in 2021. Since that time, the Engineering Department has been working with the Parks & Recreation Department and has finalized a design and bid the construction of a neighborhood park and parking lot.

While the park was under design, staff had been researching the history of the area to recommend a name for the park. After working with the library historian, we are submitting the name “Tor Hill Park” for consideration.

Research found that the Morgan family-owned land in the area. The family ran a school for local children in the 1870’s at their farm by the name (Tor Hill). With the land for the park belonging to the school district, staff felt this was an appropriate name.
