Consider An Ordinance Designating The Number of Positions in Each Classification of Firefighters In The Carrollton Fire Department.

BACKGROUND:
The purpose of this agenda item is to amend Ordinance No. 4234, which was passed by the City Council on December 3, 2024, designating the number of positions in each classification of firefighters in the Carrollton Fire Department. This amendment shall reflect changes in the number of authorized Firefighter positions from 71 to 70 and authorized Apparatus Operator positions from 59 to 60, within the Fire Department. The change in the numbers of the specific classifications does not change the total number of authorized positions within the Fire Department. This agenda item is an amendment to the current ordinance to ensure that we maintain the correct number of Firefighter and Apparatus Operator positions assigned to the Operations Division. The reclassification is due to a reassignment to fill a vacancy created by promotions in our Fire Prevention Division.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
Funding for one reclassified Apparatus Operator position will be absorbed into the Fire Department's existing budget.
IMPACT ON COMMUNITY SUSTAINABILITY:
The reclassification of the Apparatus Operator position ensures that the Fire Department maintains the required number of Apparatus Operator positions within the Operations Division. This amendment also allows the Fire and Life Safety Educator position, which is integral to our community education and outreach programs, to be filled in the Prevention Division.
