Consider A Resolution Approving The Appointment Of New Members Of The Carrollton Police Reserve Pursuant To The Carrollton Code of Ordinances, Section 35.60(B), Which Authorizes Such Appointment By The Chief of Police.

BACKGROUND:
State law and City ordinances allow the Chief of Police to appoint unpaid reserve police officers. The Carrollton Police Department previously had a Reserve Program. This project will serve to renew and revitalize the program. The proposed resolution appointing new members of the Carrollton Police Reserve Program will allow for prior officers to aid the Police Department on a voluntary basis. The Reserve Program and its officers serve at the pleasure of the Chief of Police to supplement and support the Police Department. The reserve officers will be permitted to aid in whatever capacity is needed. Reserve officers will be required to complete and maintain the same training as is required of all other police officers.
The Carrollton Code of Ordinances, Title III, Chapter 35, "Police Reserve Unit," Section 35.60. "Established as Separate And Distinct From The Police Department, Voluntary Basis," Subsection (B) states, in part, that "Members of the city police reserve serve at the will of the Chief of Police."
The proposed members of the Reserve Program, Whitney Wallace, Gregg Anderson and Brian Box are all former Carrollton Police Officers that retired in good standing. All three individuals have maintained their TCOLE (Texas Commission on Law Enforcement) licensure and all meet current TCOLE training requirements. Their numerous years of experience and background in all aspects of law enforcement, specifically law enforcement in Carrollton, will be an invaluable asset to the Police Department.
