Title
Consider A Resolution Nominating A Candidate To Be A Member Of The Board Of Directors For The Denton Central Appraisal District.
Body
BACKGROUND:
The Property Tax Code, Section 6.03 requires an election of members to the Board of Directors of an appraisal district. SB2 of the Second Special Session of the 88th Legislature redefined the terms of the appointed positions resulting in this election being a transition period in terms of length of service. For the term beginning in January 2025, the officers will either serve a one- or three-year term, however, the term will be a 4-year staggard term after this round of elections. The term length will be determined by a drawing at the first meeting of calendar year 2025.
There are five appointed board positions for the Denton Central Appraisal District (CAD) Board of Directors selected by taxing jurisdictions. Each entity that is entitled to vote may nominate a candidate for each position to be filled. For this nomination, all five board positions are included in this appointment, therefore a total of five candidates can be nominated. In order to serve on the Board, the candidate must be a resident of Denton County and must reside in the county for at least the two years prior.
Roy Atwood, a Carrollton resident, previously served on the Denton CAD Board of Directors, however, he does not wish to seek reelection.
Once nominations are received, the cities will later receive a ballot for official voting for the Board of Directors.
IMPACT ON COMMUNITY SUSTAINABILITY:
By nominating members to the Denton Central Appraisal District's Board of Directors, it allows for representation of the City of Carrollton's residents and businesses to ensure our tax base continues to grow appropriately.
