Consider Approval Of The Purchase Of Police Uniform Items And Concealable Body Armor For The Police Department From ‘Red The Uniform Tailor’ Through An Interlocal Agreement With The City Of Frisco.

BACKGROUND:
The City of Frisco recently renewed a cooperative bid representing members of the Collin County Governmental Forum (which includes Carrollton), and their bid results are excellent.
The uniform items to be purchased from this price agreement will be various trouser, shirt, and coats required for police and detention officers, K9 officers, and property, evidence and crime scene detectives.
The bid also includes body armor to be purchased for all sworn personnel as new officers are hired or armor replacement is needed. Ballistic vests are replaced once they are no longer warrantied by the manufacturer, which is usually five years. The body armor included in this agreement and which will be provided to Department personnel is the Alpha Elite Level IIIA Vision model body armor. The price for two armor panels and two carriers via the new agreement is $854.40.

The uniforms will be purchased from budgeted funds for the cost centers and amounts as listed below.

IMPACT ON COMMUNITY SUSTAINABILITY:
Approval of this proposal sustains the Police Department’s mission of providing a safe community by providing uniform gear that protects police officers and provides for a professional appearance in the course of their various assignments.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION/ACTION DESIRED:
Staff recommends City Council approve the purchase of police ballistic body armor for an amount not to exceed $45,000.00 and police uniforms in an amount not to exceed $100,000 from Red The Uniform Tailor. These purchases will be processed through a bid award by the City of Frisco representing the Collin County Governmental Forum and the City of Carrollton’s cooperative membership in this governmental entity.
