Title

Consider An Amendment To The Code Of Ordinances, Chapter 130.26, To Allow For Public Consumption Of Alcoholic Beverages In The Downtown Carrollton Square On A Daily Basis Between The Hours Of 5:00 PM And 11:00 PM Each Day, Except During Special Events.

Body

BACKGROUND:

In 2012 the City Council adopted Ordinance 3477 prohibiting the consumption of alcoholic beverages in public places.  Prohibited places include any public street, alley, sidewalk, public parking lot or public transit center in the city, as well as any public place adjacent to any street, sidewalk or alley. Exceptions are provided for business establishments that hold a TABC permit, including golf courses and special events where required permits are obtained by the applicant, such as those held in the Historic Downtown area.

As requested by City Council, this proposed amendment to Section 130.26 of the Code of Ordinances would allow for the consumption of alcoholic beverages in the Historic Downtown Square on a daily basis between the hours of 5:00 pm and 11:00 pm each day, except during special events.

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:

This item has no financial implications on the current or future operating budgets.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION/ACTION DESIRED:
