BACKGROUND:
The 2013 Bond Program provided $14,000,000 to replace the existing police headquarters facility. In subsequent authorizations, City Council approved $2,257,362 in additional funding, bringing the total project budget to $16,257,362. During initial project scoping, allocations of the original budget were identified for various components such as design, construction, IT, moving, furniture, etc. Of the total bond amount, $770,000 was budgeted for the furniture throughout the building.
In the selection of the furniture package, the City identified Bauhaus Interiors Group as the primary vendor through a U.S. Communities national cooperative purchasing contract to obtain the most competitive pricing. The city of Carrollton has been an active member of the U.S. Communities cooperative purchasing contract. U.S. Communities is a nonprofit government purchasing cooperative that helps public agencies reduce the cost of purchased goods by combining the purchasing power of public agencies nationwide. This objective is accomplished by competitively soliciting quality products by a single lead public agency and making the resulting contract available to other public agencies nationwide. The Bauhaus contract is the result of a competitive public solicitation by Fairfax County, Virginia on behalf of all local governments, and made available for use by other government entities.
