BACKGROUND:
Fleet Services is requesting the replacement of four (4) trailers assigned to the Athletic, Streets, and Drainage Departments. Trailers in our fleet have an average life expectancy of 8-15 years. This useful life is dependent on factors such as: wear and tear, service type, and the carrying capacity. Units 8106 and 8113 have been in service for 20 years and units 8136 and A-A112 have been in service for over 10 years. All trailers were evaluated for potential rebuilding, but none were good candidates. All units display excessive structural rust and deterioration, creating serious safety concerns. The trailers are used daily for the transport of heavy equipment to and from job sites.
For competitive purposes quotes were obtained from multiple cooperatives that the city is a part of. Staff recommends the purchase of four (4) trailers from Interstate, through BuyBoard. This cooperative entity meets all state of Texas competitive bidding requirements. Texas law authorizes this process so that the City can save the time of developing specifications and avoid the duplication of the competitive bidding process.
