BACKGROUND:
Due to a documented error in the transmission of payments for account #121488DEN by the U.S. Postal Service, the statutes related to post office errors and the recommendation of the Denton County Tax Collector/Assessor, the Denton County Court of Commissioners has authorized the refund of the penalty and interest assessed on this account. The Denton County Tax Collector/Assessor is seeking approval to refund the City of Carrollton’s portion of penalties and interest caused by the documented administrative error on the part of the U.S. Post Office.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
If approved, the Denton County Tax Collector/Assessor will refund the city related late payment penalties of $78.21 and $12.64 in city related interest.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION/ACTION DESIRED:
Staff recommends the City Council Authorize the Denton County Tax Collector/Assessor to refund the penalties and interest.
