Title
Consider Approval Of The Purchase Of An Enterprise Class Backup And Recovery Application For Disaster Recovery And Continuity Of Operations For the Information Technology Department Through A Texas DIR TSO-4288 Cooperative Agreement With Rubrik In An Amount Not To Exceed $284,957.28.

Body
BACKGROUND:
At the root of any strong organization's technology is the ability to reliably and manage their backups and recover needed information. The City currently utilizes Veeam as its primary backup system which has become antiquated considering our large amounts of data and current security risks. Rubrik is a Next Generation (NextGen) backup solution that utilizes modern backup methodologies and additional security features to increase the reliability, efficiency, performance, and, most importantly, the security of our backups.

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
While the Rubrik solution is not inexpensive, the data on our servers including police evidence, accounting information and data for all departments is valuable beyond what dollars can convey. Rubrik is peace of mind that this data is protected.

IMPACT ON COMMUNITY SUSTAINABILITY:
Rubrik backups are also stored in an immutable (immune to ransomware) format. This means that should the city's systems be compromised; the backups would remain untouched and available for restoration of services. Other features include the ability to deploy servers directly from the Rubrik system allowing IT to quickly redeploy a new server from backup thereby limiting downtime.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION/ACTION DESIRED:
The Information Technology department recommends the purchase of Rubrik off an existing DIR contract TSO-4288 to FreeIt Data Solutions for a five-year total cost of ownership of $284,957.28 which includes all maintenance, hardware, and licensing costs.
